First, 2 neat-o sciencey links ganked from [livejournal.com profile] breklor's journal:

I found the village voice one kind of telling - it takes money and corporate support to do much of anything these days. Artists depend on NEA funding or corporate sponsorship, I think inventors, scientists, and basically anyone doing creative work does. Maybe it's just that people don't enjoy embodying the romantic notion of a starving artist anymore. Regardless I think it is kind of sad to see how much money really dictates opportunity.

The BMX bike thing seems like a terribly nifty way to try and show kids that physics is cool. Not sure it will work...I'm pretty sure physics will still be a nerdy thing for highschool kids, especially when compared to, say, basketball, but good effort and stuff. I like the idea that this is Einstein year anyway. Ironic that it is also the year of the cock?
