Heh - I guess I can teach 5th grade, who knew? I decided to take a 1/2 day sub job on Wednesday for a 5th grade class and it was great. I taught 2 periods of math and homeroom and the kids were attentive and did their work and eager to raise their hand. I even got on the good side of the 2nd yr. 5th grader who had a chip on her shoulder (I cold called her to the board, helped her work through the problem, and got to say "good job").

I guess trying out different experiences is a good thing, so this afternoon I'm doing 1/2 a day of 1st grade. We'll see how that goes.

It scares me to see 5th graders with chips on their shoulders. I didn't get that jaded, maligned feeling until middle school, and I thought that middle school/junior high was just where everyone learns that life sucks, society isn't fair, and people who strive for popularity are mean. I guess kids really are growing up quicker these days.

Wow, this article makes me really happy, kinda like the happy I felt when I found out that Enigma had to pay royalties to that Taiwanese couple for a track in "Age of Innocence" and that they got gold records.

In other news, 1st grade is not for me. My cut off must be somewhere between 1st and 5th. Thank goodness it was only a half day.
