I find this more than a little disturbing, but maybe that's just because I see the present-day democratic party as a party without vision and without real policy goals. Check out the "Sample Pages" section - apparently democrats are about sharing toys and playing fair. Interesting, except that Democrats have still been implicated in a lot of nasty business over the years. I just can't imagine buying a book to politically inculcate my (hypothetical) toddler. Spooky.

I listened to an interview with the guy who wrote it a while back. He seems to think that all children's books - The Little Engine That Could being his favourite example - are political.

(Oh, the sample page with the elephant walking down the path? The elephant apparently tramples the bench the homeless guy was sleeping on.)

too funny - I'll certainly agree that many childrens' books have political aspect too them. This one might even be laudable in that it is making its political biases explicit. However, I do think it goes to far, so much that I think it now has little more than camp value.

I do think that a lot of the trouble in modern society is caused by the fact that we have become excessively value-free in the raising of children. It seems to me to be attributable to the fact that we don't say, for example, 'it's important to play fair' enough that political parties (of any stripe) become so easily implicated in nasty business... though of course there's a large difference between social awareness and brainwashing!

I totally agree that our political parties need to remember the kindergarten message that playing fair is important; so do the heads of corporations and our military. I'll even buy that playing fair is a democratic ideal (though it is rarely implemented or enforced in democratic society) However, claiming that the democratic party has playing fair as one of its main tenets is stretching it quite a bit, IMO.

If it could be made to come true, though... and that's all about propagandising the young. It's tricky!
