wendyg gave me The Year of Magical Thinking (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Year-Magical-Thinking-Joan-Didion/dp/000721684X) after my brother & mother died. I found that book at once insightful and utterly maddening (for reasons I'll elaborate on if you wish). However it did inspire me to dig deeper, and I've been reading We Tell Ourselves Stories in Order to Live (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tell-Ourselves-Stories-Order-Live/dp/0307264874) which is excellent.
