After months of wrangling and worrying and forms and networking and waiting, I have a 30 day visa for Uzbekistan!!!!!!

Actually it's hot - 120 degree hot.

Why did I end up doing research in the northern hemisphere desert? My colleagues doing research in Argentina and even Fiji have it made. This is especially true since the only free time I have to do research is during the "chille," a 40-day period of intense heat.

But I digress. I think I'll have the ride to the airport all covered, but I'd appreciate if I can hold your offer as a back up plan.

Another reason why I'm so glad my research can be done from the comfort of my living room in my jammies. Phew! But it's kinda boring when you say you're doing fieldwork, you're asked where, and you say "uh, my couch." No one wants postcards.
