(no subject)

I think I'm being a little more forthcoming about feminsm/trying to empower women here this time. I think part of it might be because I feel like I have more credibility as a married woman - I'm not some kooky hyper modernized western chick trying to tell Uzbek women to give up on men and go live in a commune or anything.

The other day the Uzbek guy who works in the commissary was there with his brother. They started talking about rap music, so I told them that I'd teach them a phrase that I'm sure they didn't cover in their English classes. They left the commissary calling each other "misgynist pigs" - it was so cool!

I've also been more outspoken about the situation of young brides being abused by their mother in laws and fertility issues and everything. I've started telling anyone who even comes near the subject about the FAM method. It's a little odd, but I really feel like women who are living in an anti-birthcontrol culture have even more reason to undertstand their bodies.

I think there should be a club or something. Maybe Lukashenko and Turkmenbashi could come here for tea and crumpets and "democratic" strategizing.
