Yipes! My dad was a pilot and my grandpa was an air traffic controller, and this scares me. People have been talking about over crowded skies for a while, and it looks like the air traffic control system may be reaching critical mass:

I don't think so. Altitude control is a lot tighter than in the old days, and as the article says, from a technical standpoint, all that's required is probably better management of vertical separation.

Of course, speaking more broadly, between this and Sept. 11, it is clear that we are already overdue to eliminate human pilots and rely fully on automation.
