Aww! Take it in stride. Part of being a participant observer is learning new things you didn't think you needed to know. maybe learning the proper pronunciation of the "o" (o-a dipthong?) will assist your speaking accent, and perhaps there is a reason why this pronunciation is important in Uzbek song culture. In English, there are certain words that are sung in a very specific way that is not how we speak the word- like "World" and "Mary" for example.
