I got the email catalogue from the old book room and found this beauty:
USSHER, JOHN. A Journey from London to Persepolis; Including
Wanderings in Daghestan, Georgia, Armenia, Kurdistan,
Mesopotamia, and Persia. 18 full page chromolithographs, xiii +
703pp, index. Ex Parliamentary library copy bound in handsome
half calf with a gilt library crest at the foot of the spine,
marbled paper boards, endpapers and edges. Prelims and last
blanks foxed, some occasional foxing throughout, margins of many
plates foxed but in general a clean, attractive book. Hurst and
Blackett. London. 1865. ()John Ussher set out on his journey
with the main purpose of penetrating the mountains of Daghestan
the scene of the conflict between Schamyl and Russia. During the
rest of his long journey he travelled through Georgia, Armenia,
Kurdistan, Mesopotamia and Persia describing in detail the places
he visited and people he met along the way. A fascinating, very
readable account. AU$3500.00 [Please quote item number 61690]
I WANT IT!!!! So there's one more thing to add to the list of what I will acquire when I get filthy rich. Some how $3500, even if they are austrailian dollars is just way out of any conceivable price range anytime in my forseeable future. Especially since I think that works out to a few hundered dollars more than my monthly income.
