Wow, I get Rob Brezny's horoscopes in the mail every week - usually they are quite inspirational, but this weeks was pretty harsh, though maybe it will motivate me.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Your risk for getting Alzheimer's
disease diminishes as you smoke more cigarettes. Air pollution
keeps your skin youthful by blocking out the sunlight that would
age it. Atomic fallout can help prevent dandruff. So does that
mean you should puff on two packs a day, hang out in the
smoggiest parts of the earth, and hope for the resumption of
hydrogen bomb tests in the atmosphere? Of course not. Likewise,
Leo, don't prop up your bad habits and rationalize nasty
influences with ass-backwards theories about why they're good
for you.

So lets take an inventory of bad habits -

1. various OCD style nervous habits that I occasionally try to break - tearing my hair out, picking my scabs, biting my nails. I'm not sure I rationalize this as good ever, but I probably try to deempasize how bad or serious it is. Mostly I feel guilty for not having enough control to stop.

2. eating sweets - this is something I stopped for a while for 6 months this past year, and haven't been able to get back to avoiding since yule.

3. not exercizing/intermittant exercise - I know this is bad, but I rationalize a lot that I'm too busy, too tired, it's too expensive, there's nothing fun to do. It doesn't help that I got harrassed when I went jogging on the boardwalk and had a near death experience while rollerblading. Hopefully when I get back from Uzbekistan this time I will find a better routine.

4. inconsiderate interpersonal relations, i.e. being bossy and arrogant, interrupting, talking too much, being unfair to people - I think I'm pretty aware of this problem that I have occasionally (sometimes I'm a good listener). It's the one I most want to work on, but seem to have the hardest time.

5. messiness - I think sometimes I rationalize that it doesn't really effect me all that much or that I don't actually have storage for all my things, so they have to live on the floor. Also I am really bad about needing things to be visible. For some reason, if I can't see it - it doesn't exist. This applies to paperwork, bills, books, and food that ends up in the crisper drawer in the fridge.

And now for something completely different - - my boss just put on "The Singing Nuns" in the office - their first track?? "My Favorite Things" from Sound of Music, of course.
