I had a very rough Uzbek lesson - I slept very late this morning and didn't wake up in time to do my homework - truly I haven't felt up to it - I should have done it friday night right after it was assigned but I had no idea that I would come down with sucking evil stomach pukey bug from hell. And its still here, but not so bad - and it seems to be milder because of immodium and pepto but still there.

Anyway, Yulduz's birthday party last night was quite fun - they've decided that I'm a close enough friend that they keep me and one other neighbor back after all the other guests have left to chat about the party afterward. I met all of Ravshan aka's relatives - all the women in his family of his mother's generation (i.e. 60+) are quite educated - most hold PhDs and some are "honored science or art workers of Uzbekistan" It was quite fun to sit and chat with them, and they had me sing the songs that I knew - the one with the PhD in music was really honored and impressed and that made me feel quite good - Yulduz (the mom of the family, Ravshan's wife, the mother of Kamola (who is my age and a really good designer) was really thrilled that I came to sing and play dutar for her birthday and placed fabric on me as is traditional for honoring/tipping musicians. It is really nice silk and I'm very touched. They complained that I wasn't eating enough (and by Uzbek standards I really wasn't). I explained to the family that I liked the food (which was mostly true, except for the potatoe salad with egg and the salty fish) it was just that I have a tummy bug. They are a really sweet family and I'm glad that they've taken me in so warmly.
