So I finished the LOTR trilogy this morning - I realized that I managed to read all 3 books in about a week. Probably too fast a read, but I was grumpy and craving the english langauge. What a lovely ending - I was so pleased.

And I've finished my Uzbek homework in time and feel all accomplished. I need to figure out my plans for the next couple days - Thurs is usually my most free day and I often go visit Mahbuba, but I'm going to start going to rehearsals that Malika holds at the uchilish and that will eat up most of my day. I also need to find time to pick up my passport, either tonight or tomorrow. Oh and I'm going to a wedding on friday - I have nothing nice enough to wear, I'm not sure what to do. Good thing I brought those high heels....

I just finished making apple pie for my neighbors - it makes me so happy to hang out with them in their kitchen, listening to the radio, making faces at Zohida (the youngest) and teaching the mom how to make pie, american style. Moments like these are some of my favorite about Uzbek culture in general, the warmth of the hearth, the closeness of the family, especially the women in the family, and the joy in the simple stuff. I dunno, its amazing what a little cooking and joking will do to stop the mid-fieldwork blues.
