(no subject)

Oooof - all of you insomniacs, I don't know how you live. I have spent the past 3 nights sleeping 3-5 hours and I am so loopy right now. The first night was wierd vodka/worry insomnia. Night before last I was hanging out with the American girls I know here and we had a righteous slumberparty and I slept from 5-7:30 it was evil and wonderful both. Then last night I was hanging out with them again, this time at A's host family because S was flying out at 4 AM. They bribed me into staying the night with the promise of a shower (Oh my god I had my first shower in almost three months....I think it was better than sex, though I haven't had that either in 3 months so I might be a little off....but if I could have both at the same time - wow). So I stayed up until 3 to see S off and was up by quarter of 8 again. I have tried to nap in the afternoons for 2 days now unsuccessfully - my apartment is freezing! We are having actual winter, which I am glad of and I asked for, but I was kind of hoping that winter wouldn't invade my apartment quite as much as it has. The radiators are all warm in the apartment, the air is just bitter bitter cold.

Yesterday I was a guest at Malika's house and that was fun, I learned some more of Muhamassi, the new maqom piece that I'm learning and her student Bekzod came over too - he's a shy, very talented guy, one of the 2 who won the maqom competition. I have a lot of fun being goofy and getting him to crack a smile.

Oh and I bought myself a tacky gold embroidered purple velvet tea cozy at the bazaar yesterday while buying quinces to make jam. I am going to inflict lovely purple Uzbek tackiness on our kitchen when I get home, I hope S and D don't mind. (I promise to bring home lots of tasty cheap tea to go with the cozy).
