Just to let you all know, R and I made it safe and sound to seattle - nothing major to report yet - the U is all closed up for the weekend, we are scampering around looking for housing, and school starts on monday - joy.

Oh Christ on a Pogo Stick! I just found out that UCLA has charged me $65 to advance to candidacy.

There is a bloody fee for doctoral candidacy - they really do get you coming and going - like tuition and my blood sweat and teeth gnashing as a TA is apparently insufficient....they need more fees.

grrrrr this was not the news I needed in the middle of house hunting chaos.
