I just had a thought about the whole gay marriage amendment that is in congress. Bush is pushing it because a few states want to make it legal or have made it legal, according to BBC 38 states have already outlawed it. So once again, like the abortion federal ban issue, the Republican Party line is to move farther from states' rights and closer to federal control and regulation, since it will no longer be up to the states to decide if gay marriage is legal. This goes completely against the simplistic outline of the 2 parties in our country I was given in 8th grade social studies - I was told that Democrats were for more federal control/federally based programs, and Republicans were for states rights and a smaller federal government.

It strikes me as ironic that 2 of the big ideological issues that many Republicans are arguing for goes against that basic tenet.

Just sayin.......
