Apr. 28th, 2005 11:49 pmRich and I and our neighbor Bahor went to the Yulduz Usmanova concert tonight. It was fun and we got to fulfill the wish of our neighbor who has dreamed about going to one of her concerts since she moved to Tashkent 4 years ago. It feels good to be able to do that for people here. The extra ticket cost all of $3 and it made Bahor SO HAPPY.
We went and sat at out local bar and talked with some folks after the concert. Our favorite waitress seemed really down and everyone seemed out of sorts. I noticed a couple of extra militsiya around as well. It turns out that they found a bomb in a bus right across from the circus (which is a 2 minute walk from our house and visible from our windows). This has put everyone on edge, especially since tomorrow is the one year anniversary of the bombings that happened last April at the Israeli and American embassies as well as the Chorsu bazaar, which we live quite near to.
I don't feel unsafe, but the palpable nervousness on the street is unsettling.
