Well, I'm not on a short list, but at least they're interested in me. I'm nervous about the syllabus requirement - I've never actually TAUGHT an ethno class - the closest I've come is teaching the Teaching with Technology course. I have a few syllabi that I'd LIKE to teach, but I've never had the opportunity.
Dear Ms. Merchimerch,
Thank you for your application for our position in ethnomusicology. The committee is
interested in your application and would like to get a bit more information. Therefore we
would appreciate it very much if you would send to us two more items:
1) An article or excerpt that demonstrates your research and writing. We would like to
request that this be a fairly concise example, in the neighborhood of fifteen pages or
fewer. Please send whatever represents you most effectively; this does not need to be a
published article.
2) A syllabus from an ethnomusicology course that you have taught, ideally for a course
that is suitable for undergraduates. This could be a general course (such as World Music)
or something more specific, and aimed at either music students or non-majors. Either a
large lecture course or a seminar will be perfectly acceptable.
We would like to receive this material by November 7 if possible. You may send it to me
electronically or in the mail. If you send it as an attachment, please use only Microsoft
Word or PDF format; please make sure to add .doc to the title of your attachment.
We are looking forward to learning more about you. Thank you very much for your interest
in Macalester College.
Sincerely yours,
The Chair of the Search Committee
