Aug. 12th, 2006 08:07 amI've been thinking about the upsurgence in violence and war lately (which seems to coincide ironically with the anniversary of the a-bombs dropping on Hiroshima and Nagasaki). I'm not sure I have anything unique or apt to add to the debate,
I just wish more people, especially those with power, would choose peace. So instead of trying to wax poetic, I found the words of some famous people that resonate with me, and I thought I would share.
When evil men plot, good men must plan. When evil men shout ugly words of hatred, good men must commit themselves to the glories of love.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Isaiah 2:4 They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
For it isn't enough to talk about peace, one must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it.
- Eleanor Roosevelt
If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
- Franklin D. Roosevelt
