things are not always as they seem
Dec. 10th, 2006 08:33 amIt is so neat when the universe whacks me over the head emphasizing that I really shouldn't jump to conclusions.
I was supposed to meet my friend A for coffee after working the tree lot yesterday. I spent a remarkably pleasant hour at the cafe drinking cafe au lait and reading Yevtushenko in translation (which is so nice - I sat in on Prof. MM's seminar on Shostakovich's 13th Symphony and it got me all enthused about Yevtushenko again). After the hour was up my patience was too. I decided that I'd been forgotten about, because although A is often late and sometimes quite so, an hour is my limit.
So I figured I was either blown off or forgotten about and was busy putting my grumpy pants on, and then I arrive home to a message on my machine that A's had a tire blow out (my cell phone had been on the charger at home). Since it was rainy and dark and not ideal conditions for tire changing, A ended up in my apartment for the night. We decorated the Xmas tree and made brownies and hot chocolate and watched the end of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. It was so lovely and gave us much more time to hang out and chat than a measly coffee outing would have. I'm so pleased that my plans were changed even though it made me so cranky at the start. Hopefully at somepoint I'll learn patience enough that I can eliminate the grumpy pants stage of evenings like these.
Plus I get to make pancakes for breakfast - I love having overnight guests if only for that reason (though with A there are a lot more reasons).
