Here I thought R was getting better - it was so deceptive. Yesterday I had the scare of my life. R had taken a nice warm bath and said that his stomach ache was feeling better. When he finished the bath he asked me to bring him his towel and mentioned that he was feeling a little dizzy. I said that he should probably lay down after drying off. I went in to bring him the towel and he was standing in the shower and didn't say anything, but smiled and made an expression of recognition, soI started drying him of with the towel. Then his eyes dialated huge and he fainted. I was terrified and screaming and luckily i was able to break most of his fall and he only banged an elbow. Still I was freaked out because there was my big strong husband in an unconscious lump in the bathtub. Thankfully, he regained consciousness in a few seconds and I immediately called the international clinic and took him in for an IV and evaluation. Turns out the dehydration plus the dialated blood vessels from the bath made him faint and he has gastroenteritis. They gave him antibiotics and he's already feeling better (phew). I think I'm more shaken up than him at this point becuase I've never seen anyone faint up close before and I felt completely helpless. Mostly I'm just glad that now we know what was going on with his body and he is definitely on the mend. His fever and spirits were so up and down over the last few days that I never knew if it was serious enough to call a doctor or not. I'm kind of kicking myself though, since antibiotics are available over the counter here. If I'd just have thought of that when he first got sick, this whole thing (and the $100 doctor visit) could have been avoided. Of course antibiotics are not something a person wants to take mistakenly because of building tolerances, so I guess it is good that we got a diagnosis from a professional.
