I stepped into the international market near my trader joes to get alternative flour for thanksgiving baked goods and I came face to face with some chocolate that I think just topped TJ's dark chocolate w/pecans and raisins as the most favorite chocolate: Lindt "intense pear" dark chocolate. It has slices of almond and chunks of candied pear in it and keeping up with its advertising, it is quite intense. For those who like the whole fruit and nut plus dark chocolate thing, I highly recommend it.

So the conference went well enough - it was a bit odd and disjointed because of the funny hotel layout and the throngs of tourists, but I did get to talk to a few people about jobs, network a little, give a paper, and hear some good talks. I also bought a book on God Rap from Black Muslim communities - should be a real interesting one.

By far the most enjoyable part of the conference was Friday, when I played hookie and went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. It was so beautiful I just couldn't bring myself to leave at noon. I ended up making my snacks stretch until dinner time and spent my time looking at ALL the pretty fishies and lying on the beach reading "The God Particle," which was recommended by my dad and was a fun read, if not quite the normal sci fi stuff I read. I just cannot express how beautiful it was underwater with the coral and the fishes - it felt like I'd found my ancestral home. Really. I think I was coral in a former life. I didn't want to leave and I wished that I was a photographer type, because words simply don't do justice to the vivid scene that kept drawing your eye from one beautiful fish/rock/reef to another. Then again, I suppose pictures wouldn't really do it justive either.
