I just saw this on the academics anonymous community and had to put it in my own journal:
"Being a PhD student is like being all of the 7 dwarfs.
In the beginning you are dopey and bashful.
In the middle you are usually sick (sneezy), tired (sleepy) and irritable (grumpy).
But at the end, they call you doc and then you are happy."
I really should get on those grant applications and that last CD review. I think I will wait until I get a shiny new computer on thursday, or maybe find a way to set up my desktop in my room.
I made a fabulous dinner last night by stealing recipes and techniques from meals we had with my extended family in New England. I mimicked my cousin D's apple sage stuffed chicken breast and my aunt S's sweet potatoes. My lil bro wasn't a fan - he doesn't like chicken, root vegetables, herbs, or onions. He politely took a thank-you bite.
I need to make borsch sometime soon since my aunt N gave me an armload of beets. Maybe I should do that this afternoon so we can eat off of it for a while.
