Oh man! I just found the perfect one year position listed on Chronicle of Higher Ed.'s website - why couldn't this happen a year from now?
Gettysburg College is looking for someone to teach music history with an emphasis on Early Music, Popular Music, and World Music - they are looking for ME!
"The Department of Music invites applications for a one-year sabbatical replacement position in Music History beginning August 2005. Appointment is at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Music. Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered. Commitment to undergraduate liberal arts is essential, as is a strong background in musicology and/or ethnomusicology. The successful candidate will teach three music history courses per semester, including courses for majors and for non-majors that include world music components (see the department and college website for details). Expertise in Early Music, Contemporary Art and Popular Music, and Global Music desirable. The College offers a vibrant program in music, and has recently founded the Sunderman Conservatory of Music, which will offer a B.Mus. degree with a strong performance orientation."
I don't know what to do - I don't think there is anyway that I could get back to the U.S. for an interview if they accepted my application, and I'd have to fedex my stuff to them. And its only ABD considered. I think I might email Professor H. about this, because it seems like the perfect one year position for me, hands down. I'm just not sure what to do - I assume the job market is so tough that I shouldn't even bother thinking about it, but it is so rare to see a job come up that is wanting my specific skill set.
Advice anyone?
