Okay so the plan for today is to finish 5 lecture outlines, leaving 4 for tomorrow before I dive into my theory exam. The 5 topics for today are: The Musics of: Bali, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Northern Australia, and Venezuela. That leaves Malaysia, Papua-New Guinea, Japan, and the Yunnan Province of China for tomorrow.

As of right now I have my bibliography and recording list set for all 5 of today's lectures except Venezuela. I can't seem to find the right recordings and I'm not sure they actually exist. Anyone have a good recording for Warao music in Venezuela? Even Smithsonian Folkways doesn't seem to have one.

Hurrah - The end is in sight, I'm more than halfway done with my 3rd exam!

ooh I just got a CD in the mail (its research!) I'm listening to it right now and it is SOOOOOO yummy. It is peshrev and semai (two rhythmic forms) of tanburi Djemil bey. It is really good Turkish stuff with straight up recording - no electronica, no reverb, nothing night clubby or belly dancey - very very nice recording - the nai (flute) playing is really exquisite.

And I just had a lovely acupuncture treatment and they said that I didn't have damp heat this time - I was amazed! I got lots of needles in my head, shoulders, and back and a few in my wrists and calves - I feel relaxed and have clarity....now I just have to attack those lecture outlines.

Had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] ame_chan and [livejournal.com profile] shaktiqueen at Maos, it was super nice and we had a good chat about the various sources of drama and stress in our respective lives.
