Wow I got up this morning and was productive despite the 4-5 cups of sangria I had last night at the neighbors party. At a little before midnight I decided to give up on the work, say good night to R, and head upstairs to the party for my neighbors' cats' birthday. J made a huge cooler full of yummy sangria that didn't taste very alcoholic, but packed a punch that I realized when I hit the bottom of my third cup. Good thing I was a smart merchimerch and cleaned all the books, articles, and miscellany off my bed BEFORE going up to the party. I met a girl who is just finishing her masters in flute performance at UNLV - she is a friend of R and A, my downstairs neighbors. If I were sticking around I'd ask her to join me in some Villa Lobos goodness because I really need to play the modern bassoon again.

Anyway I trundled myself off to bed at about 1:30 and either I was too tippled to notice, or the people at the party really were good about being quiet. I slept like a log (an alcohol soaked log) until 8. Then I got up and finished the hardest of my 3 exam topics - reconstructionism. Now all I need is the vision and motivation to write up the other 2, finish my world music exam, and start editing my Silk Road exam. I really really wish my advisor would get back to me about my dissertation proposal *grumblegrumblegrumble*

Oh man! Today is mothers day and I am meeting my aunt and her family for lunch - I need to get her a card!

Wow I just ran into an article that does an amazing job of summing up scholarship on post-colonialism, transnationalism, and vocality. It will figure very prominently in my post-colonialism topic that I'm writing at the moment.

The reference for those of you who are ethnographically inclined (or just plain curious):
Rodman, Margaret C. 1992. "Empowering Place: Multilocality and Multivocality" American Anthropologist 94: 640-656.
