Well R and I are now vaccinated against tetanus, hepatitis A and hepatitis B. The B booster is good for like 8-10 years, but hep-A is only good for 3 so if I want to keep coming back to places where public health is an issue I'll need more. The total for the 2 of us was $220.

They also wanted to give us the meningitis vaccine and the typhoid vaccine. I've heard scares of the meningitis vaccinne not being completely effective and sometimes that it gives people meningitis - or am I thinking of a different vaccine? I'm holding off on both of those because they would be another $200 and it doesn't seem all that likely. If we go to Tajikistan this spring I think we'll get the tyhpoid vaccine. I wish I new more about the arguments not to vaccinate children, about vaccines as harmful, etc. I do not feel like an informed patient at all and I know my doctor probably wouldn't tell me why not to get vaccinated.

The clinic was near a video game kiosk. I got sucked in for the rest of the day with Pirates: Live the life. It runs a little funny on my computer sometimes, but it is still a very fun game.

Oh and happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] prizmdonna I hope you've had a happy one.

Wow this makes me so incredibly sad - I can completely see why the soldiers would open fire on the poor kid, especially since 13-14 year olds have been known to tote real rifles (the militarization of children is a whole other problem). And taunting soldiers with toy guns is probably not the smartest thing to do. But still - the kid was shot dead for teasing an occupying soldier with a toy. So sad on so many levels.

I think it's a strong argument against both occupation and war toys.
