(no subject)

Well yesterday was a pretty full day. R and I got filmed for the morning TV show Munnavar Tong. It was kind of a circus, because they filming was that hotel Uzbekistan and they didn't seem to have any chairs fit for sitting and playing. They wanted us to play on the squishy couches in the lobby. It was silly. They ended up putting us in the tres exotic/strategically essestial top floor restaurant which was decked out in rustic/nationalistic fabrics and wood. The interview was kind of silly with questions like "what do you feel when you play Uzbek music?" Which was not helped by my lack of flowery phrases in Uzbek, so I came up with an answer like "Playing Uzbek music makes me feel good, yeah, it makes me really happy." Barf. Oh well, I should get a copy of the cassette so my mom can have bragging rights (as much as "my daughter was on state-controlled TV in a small 2nd world nation" is a reason for bragging). Of course the last time I went on TV (2 years ago) I had strangers coming up to me for weeks saying "you're that American from TV." I should probably warn R about that...

I also finished my CD review for CESR so now I am finally free of obligations and can spend the bulk of my time writing my dissertation. Though maybe I'll go out drinking tonight instead. It's nice to have a big chunk of time with nothing to do except research and writing, unless you count job applications and conference papers which will start coming up in the fall.

Speaking of job interviews I need to decide how many I'm going to push for right now. There are a couple of jobs being posted that I'm thinking of applying for, but I really don't feel like taking the hassle. Of course I'm worried that if I wait until I hear yay or nea from these grants, then there won't be any jobs left to apply for.
