We went to the 4th of July party at the ambassador's place - holy crap it is huge! This is a divorced guy who lives alone - I can't help thinking how lonely it must get and what a waste of space it is. Of course he needs the space to throw huge parties and entertain dignitaries, but still it is impressive in the waste. I'm sure there are families in the embassy housing pool who could make better use of it.

The theme was nifty-fifties or oldies or something - there were oldies blasting through the speakers, elvis movies showing on the compound walls, and diner/drive in decor. They really went out of their way for the beverages - Sam Adams beer and root beer floats, which made up for the fact that the food was pretty much central asian attempts at American fare. I am still feeling a tummy bug, so I subsisted for the evening on rootbeer floats :) I did get to drink part of one of R's Sam Adams and realized it was a mistake. R learned that he isn't actually allergic to beer, just to central asian beer. The Sam Adams were going down his neck just fine. I ended up going home after about an hour and a half, but was glad I went just to see what the party was like. Oh and the rootbeer floats. I don't care if it messes with my tummy bacteria, I am glad I went just for the rootbeer floats.
