Mar. 24th, 2006 09:31 amHeh - I guess I can teach 5th grade, who knew? I decided to take a 1/2 day sub job on Wednesday for a 5th grade class and it was great. I taught 2 periods of math and homeroom and the kids were attentive and did their work and eager to raise their hand. I even got on the good side of the 2nd yr. 5th grader who had a chip on her shoulder (I cold called her to the board, helped her work through the problem, and got to say "good job").
I guess trying out different experiences is a good thing, so this afternoon I'm doing 1/2 a day of 1st grade. We'll see how that goes.
It scares me to see 5th graders with chips on their shoulders. I didn't get that jaded, maligned feeling until middle school, and I thought that middle school/junior high was just where everyone learns that life sucks, society isn't fair, and people who strive for popularity are mean. I guess kids really are growing up quicker these days.
