Our flight out of Albany was canceled today, and because the holidays are so busy and the airlines no longer fly when planes are 1/2 full, the 1st flight that they could get us out of any airport in the region is out of Albany tomorrow flying into SFO.
My Bosnian is heartbroken that he won't be able to spend New Years with his mom and extended family. This is the first New Years that he's been separated from her since the war. I wish there was something I could do, but every airport within driving distance is snowed in as well.
We tried so hard to plan this trip so that we could spend his birthday and New Years with his family and Christmas with mine. It seemed like it was going to work out perfectly, but I guess we should have left a bit more padding in our schedule when flying in and out of the north country in the midst of winter.
Also, we ended up buying 2 1-way tickets on 2 different airlines. When we booked the flights in September, we flew out of San Jose and returned to San Jose. I'm finding deep irony in the fact that because of schedule changes and snow, we ended up flying into and out of SFO instead.
This brings up another issue. We were planning on taking a shuttle or a cab from San Jose to the Bosnian's place, since it's near. SFO is quite far away. Is there anyone out there in LJ land who would be willing to be an airport saint and take us from SFO to San Jose on New Years day at 11:30 p.m.?
