bad morning and a stolen meme

Ugh this morning's sections were fabulous - I have quite a few articulate, intelligent, enthusiastic students -rah rah rah.

Then I went to Uzbek......I now have a new asshole.....my prof came in with the mission to rip me a new one and boy-oh did he succeed. He managed to trash my education (because I didn't know Greek or Turkish to give appropriate examples of the aorist form) and tell me how disappointing my progress was to him and that I "wasted" my trip to Uzbekistan. ugh. I don't know what to do with myself - all of his criticism was completely unconstructive and I feel like shit. I don't know if I should drop the class (independent study) or what.

L- Living arrangements? I live happily (though probably not ever after) with S and D, and their lovely cat Alexander

P- Phobia? Rejection, failure

R- Religious affiliation? not really, I was raised unitarian-athiest but believe in Nature (capital N) and the intangible connection between all people. I'm a little Pagan, a little Christian - or at least I still celebrate the gift giving holidays, and according to some, a little Muslim after I became Uzbekimerchimerch
S- Siblings? 2 brothers, younger who I'm very close to and older who I wish I was more close to
T. Time you wake up? 7-8ish, (even on weekends) except on Friday when I'm up at 6:15
U- Unique habits? taking my shoes off at the door, no matter whose house I'm in, singing along to tunes in languages I don’t speak (like Arabic)
V- Vegetable you refuse to eat? brussel sprouts, okra (except in gumbo)
W- Worst habit? oh how to choose...... tearing my hair out? Bossing people around? Being a flakey puff? I know - leaving open bags in my cupboard and attracting grain moths (which is a subset of flakey puff)

Oh honey, that is awful. I for one am quite impressed by the extent of your knowledge and education. Both are very evident when talking with you and I have only known you for a short time. Maybe he was just having a particularly bad day and you were the one he chose to take it out on.

thanks - luckily I've been in a pretty self-confident space lately, so even though I am really hurt by what he says, especially since there is a grain of truth in it (I was a child of the public school system, I haven't been making rapid progress in Uzbek this year, and one of my regrets about my trip to Uzbekistan is that I relied so heavily on my Russian instead of forcing myself to speak more Uzbek). Regardless, I am confident in the fact that I belong in the academy and am confident that I am on the right path for myself and that I'm slowly progressing toward my goals. So while his comments sting a lot, they haven't thrown me into too dark and scary a place - I'm just really thrown because he has been so supportive of me in the past.
