Last night's birthday party was a smash, and we still have desserts left over which is good, since we are having all our Uzbek friends over for birthday part II. It should be more chaotic, since we had 6 americans over last night (we invited 10), but if everyone and their families come today, we could have 15 Uzbeks in our house. Luckily they are used to sitting on the floor with quilts. Everyone came over around 7:30 and we blew out candles and sang, then dug into all the desserts. My friend A brought lemon bars, and J brought ice cream, so we really did have a sugar-laden feast. My attempt to make carmel sauce (from condensed milk, butter, sugar and regular milk) was successful and we really had more sugar than we knew what to do with. After everyone chatted and caught up for a while we adjourned to the local bar downstairs, except that it had already closed (at 10pm!). We ended up going to a restaurant instead and having "pizza." (don't get too excited, it was sliced hot dogs, ketchup, and mushrooms on dough with cheese and a slice of tomato on top) Throughout the evening people trickled out and we ended up coming home from the restaurant with 4 people and playing a bunch of Spite and Malice, the new card game my parents sent R. It was a very fun game, but I decided to go to bed when I won 2 rounds in a row and everyone was getting spiteful (plus I was getting sleepy). According to R the last 2 people left at 3 AM! I really think that the best thing about having a nightowl husband is that I get to go to bed whenever I want, even when there are guests over. I was very proud of making it until 1:30 last night, but I couldn't make it until 3 - I've got a nasty head cold on top of everything and it is not going to get better without sleep.
