So R and I have some travelling to schedule in the next month or so. We're trying to get visas to Tajikistan so I can do a little bit of comparison. We're also travelling to Karshi (finally) for the competition that was supposed to start last week. It starts on the 11th, so we'll probably head south on the 15th or 16th to try and catch the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
Had a great lesson with Malika opa yesterday. Started learning Mugulchai Navo, which is hauntingly beautiful. Navo has some really interesting ornaments that are common in it, and it's melodic structure seems to have a lot of leaps of 4ths and 5ths. It sounds the most "modal" to me when I put on my Western Art music ears.
Also, she found 3 more volumes of the 6 volume Shashmaqom set. I now have 4. I never thought I'd be able to get so many. They are so rare and she found them for a really good price ($10/piece).
