I'm feeling a little better about everything today. I have applications out to three schools - UCDublin, U Sheffield, and Tufts. They are all kind of long shots, since they say that their ideal candidate already has a Ph.D. in hand, but if their posting jobs now for next year it means that they have a need to fill a slot. Hopefully I have a shot at at least one of them. Sheffield is only a one semester job, Tufts is a year and Dublin is 3 years. Obviously dublin would be the best bet, since job security is a nice thing and Ireland sounds like the most fun choice of the three.
I have 3 plans now. Plan A is that I get the UCLA fellowship we move back to CA while I write and then hopefully I find a job for the following year. Plan B is that I don't get a fellowship, but get one of the jobs I've applied for. Then we move to wherever and I become a stress monkey with writing and teaching. Plan C is if I get nothing. Then we move back to CA and I get some kind of part time job while I write up. I need to remember that all 3 plans are still condusive with reaching our goals of eventually getting R through college and into a teaching job, getting me a professorship and having time to spend with kids. Not getting a job or a fellowship this year does not automatically make our long term goals null and void.
