Well that was certainly exciting. I think my most recent flight trumps even my 9 hour flight to Moscow with food poisoning expereince. I've never had the paramedics called on my behalf before.

I really did think I was on the up turn when I was packing on Wednesday. I had managed to keep down an entire 16 oz jamba juice and an entire sleeve of Saltines. Boy was I wrong. The flight was really turbulent and I saw all of that again. It was miserable. I spent the last 3 hours of the flight curled up on a blanket on the floor of the galley because I wasn't strong enough to sit. Really. Dehydrated. Complete tilt test failure. Once they got me to the clinic in the Atlanta Airport (who knew they had these? what a good thing.), they put anti nausea meds in my IV and pumped me full of fluid. At that point I could at least stand again.

I hobbled and wobbled myself to Boston and had to ask them to get a wheelchair to get me to baggage claim. I had no idea airports were so big and hard to traverse - in my normal mode I just hustle along and get to where I'm going. I can't imaging what disabled or elderly people do - I'm amazed that they have enough of those motor carts. I certainly never want to be that sick in an airport again.

So now I'm here and new_man and his partner are very nice, downright saintly for putting up with my dysentary. They also let me use their computer all day so I was able to get my grant applications off afterall. It was an adventurous walk to the post office, but I made it, and after a little rest, even had enough energy to go out to dinner with them and laxshmi_amman. Wohoo I must be better because I've kept down 3-4 spoonfuls of candied yams and 1 corn fritter for at least 3 hours now. No fair taking dystentary lady to Barbeque - I haven't yet found decent barbeque in Sac. Maybe this will be inspiration for my search. I even managed a quick peruse of a used bookstore (found a $4.50 copy of Charlie Keil's Tiv Song, and a Russian-English social science dictionary), and a cup of peppermint tea at the cafe next door.

Now I'm back at home-for-now and will be sleeping and resting and not expecting much of myself until my paper at 4PM.

This was certainly not how I had imagined this weekend to go, but it's certainly been a learning experience.
