So I've decided to take a new tactic with job applications. I'm going against my advisor's advice and sending the 1st chapter of my dissertation instead of the article on wedding music that was recently published. I talked with R before making the decision and he was really encouraging. The bottom line is that the article was written 3+ years ago and the writing is okay, but not at the level that I'm currently writing. I think that my advisor originally told me to send the article because he hadn't read it closely (he still hasn't). However, R has gone through and edited the thing with me, and my advisor did give macro-view type input, so I'm going to take that risk. I realized over the break that I hadn't heard from anywhere that had my writing sample, so I'm thinking that may be part of the problem with my applications. Hopefully this will be the catalyst that will get my applications noticed from now on.
