Yesterday was a heck of a day.

I took the CBEST - I'm pretty sure it was no big deal, but I hope I didn't over-write my essays - they said educated adults would be reading them, which I took to mean college educated adults. Either way, I'm pretty sure I passed and will be one step closer to substitute teaching if I need it (or want to pick up some extra cash before I head to whereever we go next).

Unbeknownst to me, while I was taking the test, R got up early and made me pie. Not just any pie, the lemon meringue pie that I married him for :) And he kept a straight face and let me find the meringue dishes in the sink without any prompting. Wonderful suprise :)

Then I chatted with J and prof. H for a while and it was such a beautiful day that R and I decided to head up to the Sierras for an adventure. We thought the adventure would be to do a bit of strolling in the forest, but instead it was fixing a belt on some guys truck who was stranded at the gas station we stopped at for gas. I sat with the guy's wife who was a fascingating french basque woman who studied design at the sorbonne and used to design costumes for Las Vegas shows. After a couple hours and a 2 trips to the parts store in Auburn, R fixed the car, I learned a little more about Paris, Vegas, and Hungarian cooking, and at the end of it all the guy gave R $120 and told him to take me out to a nice dinner. Yee haw!

So R and I finished our drive around the Sierras (it was too late for strolling) and ended up going to TGIFridays and actually buying girly drinks with our meal. The drinks were silly and fun, and the food was decent (not stellar) and high in sodium, and it was interesting to see that kind of suburban demographic in action. I'm glad TGIF's is not where I usually spend my saturday nights. I like our local small business type eats much better.
