Thanksgiving

merchimerchI have a lot to be thankful for.
I'm grateful for my friends and family and all the support that they are willing to give me. My chosen family and genetic family have all shown their quality and strength in my direction recently.
I'm grateful that I have enough to eat, a roof over my head (and a nice landlady to go with it), health insurance, fresh water, and mobility.
My students are wonderful, and I'm blessed to have a career that I actually *want.* I'm so grateful for my mentors and all the people who have helped me build a career based on research that I love and a pedagogical philsophy that I believe in.
I'm grateful that I was able to do my research in the small window of thaw in which UZ allowed relative freedom to American scholars.
I'm grateful that I live in a culture that allows me to pursue my personal, career, and financial goals.
Looking around, I feel so thankful that my burdens are relatively few, and my blessings many.
(I'm also thankful for the great T-day feast I got to participate in hosted by nisaa and ajax - it was great to be social and stuff myself with many varieties of goodness)
