I'm not backing Hilary Clinton in the primaries (I'm registered Green Party anyway), but Gloria Steinem makes some good points:

I honestly think the thing that will sink her will be her age, not her gender. Obama's about the only one on either side that can claim he's not in the Vietnam-era politicians, and I think the election is quickly turning into a referendum against that entire cadre of people. Woman or not, there's little hope of her extricating herself from that generation.

I do think Gloria's right though that it'll be a black man that gets elected before a white woman. :P
