This weekend the Bosnian and I were wondering what instant netflix movie to watch and as we browsed through the possibilities that were recommended and not finding anything really appealing, we clicked on Jodhaa Akbar to try and pick something else if it was boring.
It turned out to be something of a treat -- a Bollywood film with a few musical numbers but not too many, and a battle of the sexes type drama set in the 16th century that had the added bonus of the topic of religious tolerance. It strikes me that this is how I'd like to see films deal with religious conflict more often (with singing and dancing and pretty costumes! and also some in depth coverage of individual belief and practice).
The film is over 3 hours long. The Bosnian and I were shocked when we thought it would be wrapping up and suddently "Intermission" flashed onto the screen. Although it made him late getting home, we watched the last hour and a half and really enjoyed it.
For those of you who like this kind of thing, I'd recommend giving it a try (plus it's on netflix instant, which is my new favorite convenience).
