auspicious news

I just got a letter from Fulbright IIE they informed me that my application has made the finals and has been forwarded to the Uzbek delegation for final review. Apparently now I have a 1 in 2 or better chance of winning this grant. This comes at a very good time since I had 12 hours at school today non-stop (I ate my lunch during office hours) and am now home finishing my translation so I can mail the ACTR grant off tomorrow (goddess willing).
I didn't get my mail until 10 pm so it was too late to call my mommy and gloat, but I did call my older brother. We had a really amazing talk - my brother and I have a very tumultuous relationship - sometimes I feel like he doesn't respect me. But tonight was great - he said he was proud of me and we spent about an hour talking about grad school and relationships and I am amazed at how much we have in common and how many interesting things my brother does. (Did I mention he's in a punk band as well as at math grad student?) Maybe I can convince R to drive up there with me over spring break.
And alexander the cat is snoring on my fuzzy blue blanket.
1 1/2 more pages of translation before I sleep.

On the other hand sometimes I feel like he feels the need to belittle me and remind me that he'll never respect me as an equal. Luckily last night I got the former.
BTW, I still have Uzbek swag for you and am finishing my grant today - sometime late this week or this weekend do you want to have a cuppa? Hopefully d can join in too.
